Gang of 20 is a comic book that i made in collaboration with the graphic novelist and artist, Orijit Sen in 2022. It was commissioned by the Centre for Financial Accountability (CFA). The idea behind this comic was to create a dialogue around India’s presence in the G20, especially in the lead up to India’s G20 presidency, and bring attention to the geo-political influences and relationships that impact our societies.
The comic chronicles a fictitious G20 Summit, organised in India by anthropomorphic characters that represent the various participating nations and the other responding actors in society. It documents the hypocrisy of international coalitions of power in tackling pressing issues like climate change and food security. In documenting this, the comic also sheds light on the many struggles of the communities that find themselves at the margins, who are then subjected to violence and oppression at the hands of state machinery.
